London Olympics 2012: Usain Bolt still the fastest of all!

Usain Bolt exploded out of a level field at the halfway mark and pulled away at a canter to win his second Olympic 100 metres gold medal.

The strongest challenger in the field, Yohan Blake, friend and countryman, grabbed silver with a personal best, and was more than happy to take second place to arguably the greatest sprinter of all time.
Justin Gatlin, Olympic champion four years before Bolt stamped his presence at Beijing 2008, and who had to come back from a doping ban, put in a spirited performance, but could only come up third, ahead of countryman Tyson Gay.
Asafa Powell, the other contender, finished not just last, but was also the only person who finished outside of 10 seconds in an astonishing Olympic sprint, as he pulled up with an injury at around the 60 metre mark.
Bolt, from the time he stepped up for his semifinal run earlier in the evening, seemed to have shrugged off his rustiness, as he put on his game face and behaved like the showman the world has come to know him as.
The 100 metre final field was no surprise and it was just a matter of seeing if anyone sprung a suprise.
Gatlin and Gay were among the first and hottest off the blocks, but Blake and Bolt pulled abreast of the two Americans by the 40 metre mark, and then as they crossed 60 metres, Bolt went into a zone of his own, where he was only looking at the clock, and never the field.
He soon pulled in at the finish line clocking 9.63, not his best, but good enough for this marque field.
Blake was second with his personal best and Gatlin was third and Gay fourth.
